Description
Welcome to Historic McGuire House! - A unique example of a late-nineteenth century farmhouse built in Ashe County that's been updated for guests to enjoy. As you enter the property, you will drive through the granary which adds to the historic character of the home. In recent years, the 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home has been renovated with high end furnishings and the kitchen and bathrooms have been updated. Another neat fact about this home is that it's pictured on the front cover of the best-selling novel, Nobody's Fool, by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Richard Russo.

Enjoy scenic views of the nearby New River and mountain surroundings from the upper or lower front porches. The New River, famous for being one of the few rivers in the US that flows north, offers outdoor fun such as fishing, kayaking, and tubing. The home sits nestled between hills on 5.5 acres over looking the beautiful New River. A bubbling creek runs by the big barn past the deck and joins the New River below the house. Take some time to rest and watch the river from a rocking chair on one of the front porches or relax in the private hot tub at the back of the home. The house also has a complimentary computer and there is fiber optic WiFi throughout.

River access across from the home may be difficult as hay is grown along the river edge.  Todd Island Park is a very short drive or walk down the road and provides easy access to the water.
This home is located between downtown Boone and the charming town of West Jefferson.

Additional Notes:
- The driveway to the home leads through a covered barn. Oversized vehicles or vehicles with cargo toppers will not fit.

- This home uses window AC units for cooling.
- All fireplaces are decorative and non-operational due to the age of the home.
- All BRMR homes offer well stocked kitchens with all utensils needed to cook meals. There is also a "starter set" of paper products at the house: a roll of toilet paper per bath, several garbage bags, a small vial of dishwashing liquid, a few tablets of dishwasher detergent, some laundry pods, a roll of paper towels, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and some makeup remover cloths. There are enough of these items for one night, or maybe two. We do not provide hair dryers. Towels and linens will be provided.
- Check in is after 4pm and Checkout is by 10am
- This home is pet friendly to two mature, well-trained dogs with a $25 per day, per dog fee.
- Must electronically sign a Rental Agreement before entry information can be shared.
- Must be at least 25 years old to reserve. This person is required to be the person signing the agreement and must be one of the persons staying in the property for the reserved dates.
- No smoking inside the home. No trace of smoking left outside the home.
- Do not leave food or trash outside as it could attract animals. All trash must be bagged and placed in the trash receptacle indicated in the Welcome Book inside the house or your digital guidebook.
- No parties or gatherings above the posted occupancy allowed at any time. Keep outside noise respectable.
- 4WD/AWD and/or chains recommended during winter (Nov-March) for all homes. Travelers visiting during the winter months where inclement weather may be possible should come prepared with an AWD or 4WD vehicle, and chains may also be required if it snows. No refunds, allowances, or date changes will be given to travelers who are not prepared with the proper vehicle, as outlined in the Rental Agreement.
- This property has one exterior security camera mounted on the right side of the home by the window AC unit, it monitors the driveway only.  No cameras monitor the interior of the home or common gathering areas.

This house is beautiful. The area is private and quiet with a river across the road you can fish in. the house is well equipped and spacious. Our family really enjoyed the board games and the hot tub. If I ever rent in Todd again, this house will definitely be my first choice.

We really enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Historic McGuire Home. The location on the New River was perfect and it was so convenient to Boone and West Jefferson.

We had a great stay at the historic McGuire House. We have rented several mountain homes/cabins in the past and this one was by far the best furnished of them all. Plenty of pots and pans, utensils, towels, extra blankets, everything you need to grill, etc. The history of the house was very interesting and we enjoyed admiring the original craftsmanship. The area was very peaceful and relaxing. The river across the road lends to additional recreation, with tubing, swimming, fishing, etc. There are beautiful walking trails also in the area. Thank-you for a wonderful stay!

We absolutely loved this place. The location was great and there was so much to do. The house is older, but so nice. There were plenty of rooms. Its located right across from the river where you can tube, fish, or just enjoy the peace. Would definitely recommend this to friends.

May be biased because my heart is forever in those Appalachians, but this was my kind of heaven. Loved the house, beautifully decorated, very comfortable, excellent views. However, if you need cell phone service or consistently working internet, this may not be the place for you. Highly recommend the hiking trail across the street on the island & a visit to Todd Mercantile & bakery. Perfect vaca for mountain souls. We fell in love & can't wait to return.

We like old houses so this suited us fine. We had a good stay. It was great to be able to go up river and then just kayak down to the house and then get out---very nice. Thanks for sharing this place!

We enjoyed our stay at the McGuire house, loved the historic nature of the home and area as well as the proximity to the New River which is absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful views! My only complaint and it has nothing to do with the home was with regard to allergy sufferers, which unfortunately we happen to be. I did have to launder all bed linens and towels as one of my children has a severe allergy (hives, swelling etc) to fragranced detergents and for the rest of us bothers our eyes, sinuses and causes mild itching. Otherwise, our stay was perfect!
