A Happy Roost was a wonderful home for a long weekend in the mountains. The layout worked out great for the families, including children, we were traveling with. The location was convenient to everything we had planned and was easy to access even with winter weather. That has not always been our experience with other NC mountain cabins we’ve rented! As mentioned in the listing, there were only starter packs provided for amenities, so do be sure to bring extra paper towels, toilet paper, dishwashing, tabs, shampoos, etc. The home was clean and well maintained, and the hot tub was a nice bonus!

The management company felt a little sterile with a 4pm check in and 10am checkout with a number of emails and texts about the rules. They did tell us we could check in early, but it was too late to take advantage of since we had a 3 hr drive. They also only provide "starter packs... not meant to last an entire visit" of toilet paper. It's not exactly welcoming to pay for a weekend visit (at $500/night) and need to go buy toilet paper. We flew and drove from Seattle so it's not an easy throw in some extras from home. The management company expected us to make a special trip go to buy more supplies from the store. It's not a difficult trip thanks to town being close, but not exactly welcoming.

note for dog owners (not a bad thing, just a note!) there isn't much yard space to take your dogs out since the house is on quite a hill. I couldn't tell from the pictures. You'll just need to walk them!

We stayed at a happy roost for a few days! It was very nice and was even better than the photos. We brought 4 medium-large dogs and the house was plenty big for them plus 6 adults and a baby! We liked that the house was divided in levels so that the baby could sleep while the adults and dogs hung out upstairs! The hot tub was a major plus as well! Great location! Would love to stay here again!

This was a very nice cabin to rent. Very close to Boone and Banner Elk. The outdoor decks were very pleasant to sit and view. The house is not completely secluded, although you have plenty of privacy. I would recommend this property if you're looking for a cabin, not too far out of town.

Everything was wondering the only exception was the comfort of the beds all beds were hard I wish they had an extra outside garbage can. Overall was very pleasant and satisfying we definitely would recommend it to our friends and family.

Location was GREAT. We were only 30 mins from Sugar and Beech Mountain and about 15 minutes from Boone. The house was perfect size for 4 adults and 3 teens and plenty of room to spread out. The house was clean, furniture was well kept and also came with a hot tub that was perfect after a long day on the slopes. The rental company was great of accommodating our request to move up our vacation due to weather. I think we found our yearly rental for our ski trips!!

We were lucky enough to be able to rent A Happy Roost for our youngest son's graduation from Appalachian on December 16. What a wonderful home! It's actually even more charming and lovely than it looks in the photos! We had more than enough room for me, my husband and our two older children, and we were able to bring our little Pug with us too since it's pet friendly (he loved the house too!). Location to App State campus was great - a quick 7-8 minute drive to the Convocation Center for the ceremony, and the house is on a very quiet street that's tucked away in a lovely neighborhood. House was immaculately clean and very well stocked with everything we needed. The hot tub was THE BEST!! Such an added bonus and such a treat! We enjoyed the hot tub both nights of our stay, and it was so fun to be toasty warm and relaxed in the tub, even though it was freezing and windy outside! The house was cozy and spacious and we just loved it. A Happy Roost indeed! Would definitely love to stay here again!

The cabin was exactly as advertised and the perfect spot for a weekend getaway with the family. Quiet but close to everything you need, the location is great. 25 mins from Grandfather Mountain and 15 mins from downtown Boone. Not really equipped well for cooking dinner but enough pans, etc for making breakfast. Hot tub was clean and fit the whole family. Would definitely stay here again!!

We (4 adults) spent three days at the cabin and found it to be very roomy, clean and well-equipped. We also had our pups with us. They enjoyed sitting out on the porch. We took a baby gate to close it off on one end so they couldn’t get out. Overall we had a great time!

This cabin was perfect for our family weekend. We enjoyed trees , fun golfers and carts view off the porch, totally comfortable for sitting and relaxing. The appliances and utensils were all present and in working order . It's a comfortable house for seniors physically challenged and active children. Plenty of space to enjoy. SHORT drive to ASU . Parking was good for two suvs and another parked safely for a short visit. Quiet neighborhood, on the top side of the mountain, so, steep and tight turns to get in driveway. So, take it slow and easy onto gravel road. You'll love it here!

This house is super comfortable for a family of four or five or three couples. Very clean inside, well equipped kitchen and great hot tub! This is a house that is all about proximity! Very close to Boone and not far to Banner Elk. If you are looking for privacy or need a yard/outdoor space for the kids, this isn’t where you want to stay. Don’t get me wrong, it was quiet and peaceful but there are apartments that overlook the house and a busy-ish road nearby. But if you plan to hike and be gone all day, enjoy the nearby towns and sights, or have a kid competing in a soccer tournament until all hours of the evening (😬) this place is awesome.

Great family reunion location. Outside is rustic, inside feels newly redone with attractive knotty pine throughout. Property management was very responsive to questions and a problem from a tree blowing down next to the cabin. A Happy Roost was an amazing place to unwind and relax. We were two couples and it was perfect. We had our own space and then also a place to come together. The kitchen table was perfect for card/ board games. It was also a nice touch that there were two couches in the living room to relax on, whether it be for watching a movie, reading a book, or taking an afternoon nap. The hosts were lovely and responsive. Truly a five star experience.

Home was very clean, inviting, and spacious. The hot tub was exceptionally clean and relaxing. This property is near everything you can imagine to do during your stay, and the views are amazing! I would definitely recommend!!

The cabin was perfect for our family getaway. It was very clean. The wrap around decks were enjoyed by all, especially the hot tub. The rental team provided excellent service, quickly answering questions. And when a member of our party left an item behind they responded quickly, tracked it down, and arranged to have it shipped to us. We were very impressed and will be looking to stay here, or at another property managed by this group, in the future.

The “Happy Roost” was a modern cabin that provided our family with many memories. The large kitchen and den allowed us to be together. The house located just outside Boone allowed us to try various eateries and the closeness to the ski slopes allowed us to enjoy nature!! We hope to return soon.

Spacious, clean and great separate area for the kids. Nice big kitchen with plenty of utensils, etc.. Slightly steep driveway but just excellent all the way around. Highly recommend! Great value for sure!

This place is very nice! It has flat screen tv's in every room, and has a very large hot tub that is amazing. Everything was 5 stars.

It was very close to all the attractions and resteraunts. Plenty of space for the family. Very clean. Just felt good. Some small negative points were, the lighting in the kitchen is not great, there was no shampoo in the shower, and the hot tub had sand in the bottom........but it's a great hot tub otherwise!!!
I would recommend and will likely be back!
